The
Advanced
Design Training is open to all Permaculture
Design Course
Graduates. Students currently enrolled in a PDC are also eligible. This
series
will build and expand on the Design Course
Curriculum. The Advanced
Course is made of three themes: Site Design,
Pattern Application and Micro-Village Network. Other themes will be
added in future sessions.
Themes may be taken independently or consecutively as a whole Advanced Series. Please check the
schedule
below for
exact dates. A final design, presentation, independent work and other
assignments will be required.
Designer
Apprenticeship Program:
Completed hours can be used as
Apprenticeship credit towards the Permaculture
Designer Certificate.*
Larry Santoyo, Director EarthFlow Design Works will lead the Advanced Design Series. Local experts
and
other guests will be announced.
Each theme has three class days. Classes will be held from 10:30 am
to 4:00 pm at various locations
throughout Los Angeles.
Advanced
Permaculture Design Series Curriculum
SITE DESIGN:
Part
One April 24 & 25 - Part Two May 15
Patterns of the Design Process, Urban, Suburban and Broad-scale
Design themes, Ideas & Essentials for Client Interview, Site
Assessment & Measurement, Concept Planning: food, water, shelter,
energy, access, Illustration software, CAD and other design tools and
presentation
methods will be demonstrated and discussed.
* Final Site Design Document and presentation will be required
THE HOME ECOSYSTEM:
Part One June 19 & 20 - Part Two
June 26
Roof Water Water Harvesting, Garden Design & Construction,
Build a Super-efficient Outdoor Space Heater, Grey Water in the
landscape, Food Forestry, Sustainable Landscape Construction &
Installation Exercises.

Pattern Literacy and guests
* Final Project and
demonstration will be required
BUSINESS GUILDS AND
MICRO-VILLAGE NETWORK:
Part
One July 17 & 18 - Part
Two July 24
Financial Permaculture, Creating
Community Capital, Using
Permaculture to help find a niche, "Business
Guilds", product and
by-product development, Alternative Currency & Time Banking, setting
up a Micro Loan System, Community Land Trusts, finding partners, site
selection, community development themes, networking.
