INQUIRE NOW!  ONLY 2 OF 6 SPACES LEFT IN NATURAL BUILDING INTENSIVE  (MAY 1-JUNE 15, 2010)

Out of our deep love for clay, straw, sand, and wood, and because of our belief that shelter is both a basic human right and a noble art, Living Craft Project has been born.  Living Craft Project is a non-profit school that teaches natural building and explores the art of a handmade life.  We work to equip people with sustainable life skills, honoring our essential human needs through craftsmanship.

Living Craft Project happily announces the successful completion of the 2009 natural building apprenticeship.  We have invited 6 new dedicated students to join us for a six week natural building intensive. During the intensive, students will build a 150 square foot modified load-bearing straw bale cottage, and gain experience in hand-crafted earthen plasters and troweled earthen floors on a 350 square foot straw bale home.

The intensive will lead students through both the structural and finish aspects of building an earthen home, with a high level of attention to craftsmanship and skill development. Modules include, but are not limited to: carpentry, wall and roof systems, materials harvesting and processing, earthen plasters, earthen floors, and clay artistry. Classroom discussions include, but are not limited to: foundation design, passive solar design, natural wall system design, and pattern language recognition.

The intensive is for a dedicated few who want to gain the hand skills to build safely and healthily. Each student will also have the opportunity to participate in the community life of Quail Springs, with access to events and feasts of all kinds. For more information go to www.livingcraftproject.org and www.quailsprings.org, or call 805-886-7239.

Dates: May 1 – June 15, 2010
