Ydsavio@ucdavis. edu I am with the
Los Angeles City Attorney's office and I am seeking a
donor to assist a senior in landscaping his
home. Our Neighborhood
Prosecutor has identified this elderly gentleman as needing help and any
ideas you have on where I can secure landscape donations, would be
appreciated.
This is the story of Mr. Smith, who lives in Los Angeles:
Here is a wonderful e-mail that Neighborhood Prosecutor Jan De Andrade
received from Nick Riehl, the Sr. Project Manager at LA Conservation
Corps, about the clean up of Mr. Smith's property in Southwest Division:
The
Los Angeles Conservation Corps has long been a positive force in
the community, however, not since I began her has a project hit so close
to home. An elderly gentleman, Mr. Smith has been a resident of Los
Angeles for many years, although he loves his house and the community,
he is no longer able to maintain his house the way he once was. As seen
in the before pictures his
garage was burned to the ground by vandals
opening his yard to local deviants. Graffiti, trash, and weeds dominated
a once modest residence. Thanks to Jan DeAndreade, and others, this
deplorable situation was brought to the attention of the Los Angeles
Conservation Corps. Always willing to help, when we can, a crew of
twenty where sent to Mr. Smith's residence armed with weed wackers,
paint brushes, and the desire to help. With the aid of street services
two thirty yard bins were filled with the remains of Mr. Smith's
garage, and removed. His yard was given a good solid weed abatement,
and the graffiti covered with a fresh coat of paint. When asked how he
felt about all this, "Thank you, thank you so much, I think it is so
great." There might have been a tear in his eye, or maybe it was just
one in mine. Nick
Imagine how great it will be when we can get his property landscaped!
Your donation or suggestions as to where I
can get product donated is
appreciated.
