Dear LA Permaculture Community,

I thought you might be interested in this event on August 30, 2007.  I found out about it through the Union of Concerned Scientists:

The EPA will hold just five public hearings nationwide on the
air pollution proposal, including one in downtown Los Angeles on
August 30, 2007, in the Garden West Room of the Wilshire Grand
Los Angeles, 930 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90017. They
will accept oral public comments at this hearing, which gives
you the opportunity to make the case that science must not be
disregarded or ignored, especially when the public's health is
at stake.

Each commenter is allowed a maximum of 5 minutes to speak and
will be assigned a general timeslot by the EPA. The hearing is
scheduled to last from 9 a.m. until every speaker has had a
chance to speak.

Ozone is a chemical that occurs naturally in the upper
atmosphere and helps protect us from the sun's radiation. But,
when it's released close to Earth's surface through human
activity, ozone-a major component of smog-is dangerous and can
cause numerous adverse health effects such as asthma and lung
damage. It's important that defenders of science and the
environment make a strong showing at these hearings so our
message is loud and clear: the EPA must use the best available
science to set a stronger final ozone standard that protects our
health.
