Job Title: Green Building Resource Center Assistant
Reports to: National Resource Center Coordinator
Global Green USA is searching for a Green Building Resource Center Assistant to help with the operation of their headquarter Green Building Resource Center in Santa Monica, California. The Green Building Resource Center Assistant will be responsible for researching green building products, maintaining and updating material displays, assisting in advising the public about green building practices, maintaining and expanding the library, assisting with panel discussions and training workshops, updating databases, and various outreach about green building. The position is based in Santa Monica, with occasional local travel for outreach and events. Part-time with full-time potential. Thursday from 3PM -8PM and Sunday from 10AM-3PM are part of the required hours for this position. Salary range from $15-20 an hour.
Global Green USA is the U.S. Affiliate of President Mikhail Gorbachev’s Green Cross International. The Green Building Resource Center is a partnership between Global Green USA and the City of Santa Monica. The Green Building Resource Center is a walk-in, store front center on Main Street in Santa Monica that is open to the pubic to provide green building materials and design advice, resources and training to homeowners, renters, building professionals, developers, students and the general public.

Major Tasks and Responsibilities
Overall
- Assist in the overall operation and maintenance of the Green Building Resource Center. Operate the center independently and assist the coordinator in maintaining and improving all areas of the center’s operations.
Resource Center Administration
- Procurement and development of green building product displays
- Develop and maintain relationships with materials representatives and local retailers who sell green building materials
- Research and screen products and materials for display
- Research and screen design strategies for the public
- Provide design input/create handout materials
- Update and manage library subscriptions and technical manuals
- Assist with book sales, stocking and tracking inventory
- Maintain database of all services provided to the public
Provide basic information to members of the public, design professionals, and contractors
- Provide information, resources, design strategies and advice
- Maintain database of community members interested in green building and environmental issues
- Tabling at community events to build awareness
Maintain an up-to-date library, display, and database of green building materials
- Maintain directory of green building professionals
- Maintain database of locally available green building materials and products
Assist with monthly public presentations on specific green building topics
- Outreach and publicity about workshop to participants via email notification, flyers and media announcements
- Assist with arranging logistics for workshops including refreshments, audio/visual equipment, and coordination with/for presenter(s)
- Assist with monthly program content development
- Archive presentations
- Track number of workshop participants and basic descriptive information about participants
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Basic knowledge of design principles and construction practices
- Understanding of key environmental issues and a commitment to promoting sustainable practices
- Comfortable in dealing with the public or experience in a customer service setting
- Ability to take initiative and work independently
- Background or experience in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, Environmental Studies, or Library Science
