New Diploma in Applied
Permaculture Design
Over
the past several months, a group of permaculture education innovators have
collaborated on the design of a new, open access, English
language Diploma in Applied Permaculture Design (DAPD) for the USA
and beyond. Members of the Diploma design team included Gaia U Adviser and
Project Manager, Ethan Roland,of Appleseed
Permaculture; Gaia U Co-President, Andrew Langford; Gaia U Masters
Associate and Earth
Action Mentor Director, Doniga Markegard; and Permaculture
Activist intern, Zach Mermel.
This new Diploma
draws on the well-established Diploma in Applied Permaculture Design of
the Permaculture
Association (Britain), which
for fifteen years has provided European permaculture designers-in-training
with live tutorial support from skilled practitioners. The new DAPD
continues to work in an action learning context, but now adds a platform
for open access e-portfolios and a low cost, pay-as-you-go, online
mentoring service through Earth Action Mentor. The new DAPD also builds on
the Spanish language Diploma offered by the Chaordic
Permaculture Institute.
On the Road Again: Gaia U West Coast

Have you been
wondering if Gaia University is the right path for you? Ever wish you could
send all of those friends who keep asking you, “What’s Gaia

of education and
permaculture pioneers from seven countries took part in a Regional
Convergence (RC) organized by Gaia
U Germany. The RC was held in Lebensgarten
Ecovillage in Steyerberg, Germany, August 2nd - 6th.The
Convergence served the two-fold purpose of providing in-depth
information about Gaia University’s system and organizational
structure, and the forging of deeper connections between Gaia U and
other ecological and social change projects across Europe and the
world.
People from fields as varied as industrial ecology,
architecture and lifestyle coaching attended the Convergence. Among
those present were Helga Fassbinder, editor and founder of the online
journal BioTope City, Andrea Preisler of ZERI

Spotlight: Change Your Bank and Change the World
Changing where you bank is one of the most simple and effective ways to support your local community
and put an end to the use of your personal
funds for destructive projects. Gaia U
Bachelors Associate Kyle Thiermann has created a
website and documentary
film dedicated to exposing the
rampant misuse of accountholder
funds by multinational banks. Kyle documented
a trip to Chile where he visited a town whose
local economy and community are being destroyed by
investments of the international banking
system in the coal power industry.
