Gaia U Announces Two Scholarship Opportunities

Gaia University International is pleased to announce that through its partnership with a new social network/complementary currency internet company, two half scholarships are available for programs in 2009 beginning in Tennessee or the US Virgin Islands.  Please see Dates and Venues for program information.

These scholarships are available to either current or new Masters or Post Masters (pre-doctoral) level associates and involve work on the development of criteria for a new internet platform to be launched in 2010.  Applicants should have excellent project management skills, be highly responsible, able to work efficiently and effectively, have well developed research skills,  self-initiative and an ability to synthesize information. Creativity and an ability to think both "inside and outside the box" will be helpful.  The focus of the project is the development of criteria for "global ecological citizens".  More detailed information will be provided to applicants.  This project may be used to fulfill documentation requirements of Gaia University and may lead to later consulting work.

For current associates, please send an e-mail to liora@gaiauniversity.org explaining why you should be considered and how you meet the above criteria.   New applicants should read our website first and then fill in the online application, highlighting relevant skills and indicating interest in the scholarship opportunity.  All applications or requests for consideration must be received no later than Sept 1, 2009.

Permaculture Boom in Hohenwald, Tennessee

The recently recognized Transition Town of Hohenwald, Tennessee, is abuzz with activity!  There’s some particular excitement going around about the Financial Permaculture Institute's summer Permaculture design course.

This first time offering has attracted 27 enrolled participants, 17 of whom are local residents earning design certificates!  “That's not even the coolest part,” says founder of the Center for Holistic Ecology and Gaia U South East Director Jennifer English, “I did this little social experiment and set up a blog for the course; we have 123 posts after only a few weeks!!!”
Jennifer has also recently been asked to create a year-long curriculum for a Green Business Technology course. The course will begin in September 2009, so sign up now by contacting the Tennessee Technology Center at 931-796-5351.
Hohenwald will also be the site of the upcoming Financial Permaculture Summit, from September 22nd to 26th, as well as a Gaia University Orientation from September 28-October 2nd.

Nala Walla: The Permaculture of Movement

Art is the most highly evolved technology that exists.” These words come to me through wires and satellites connecting a cell phone in Rhode Island to my home line in Montreal, Quebec. More importantly, these invisible waves allow the voice and thoughts emerging from Nala Walla to reach me, and now, you.
Nala Walla lives off the grid on an island in Puget Sound where she leads events and workshops that weave together the principles of Permaculture with those of dance. She is a Gaia University Associate, artist and founder of the Bcollective. Her techniques and philosophies, “Zone Zero,” “bodyversity” and/or “bodecology,” which put emphasis on the how of living and doing, as opposed to the usual “what” or “why”.
Her philosophy is well exemplified through her upcoming performance collaboration with Mark Lakeman, founder of the City Repair Project in Portland Oregon, entitled "Waterhouse".
